WORKING PRINCIPLE
Working Principle is same like pressure sand filter. Filtering media is Activated Carbon Granules. Given Below are details for Activated carbon characteristics and data.
Activated carbon is useful in drinking water treatment because it acts as an adsorbent, and can effectively remove particles and organics from water. These organics are of great concern in water treatment because they react with many disinfectants.
Adsorption and how it works
Adsorption is the process by which Activated Carbon removes substances from water. Defined, adsorption is "the collection of a substance onto the surface of adsorbent solids." It is a removal process where certain particles are bound to an adsorbent particle surface by either chemical or physical attraction. Adsorption is often confused with Absorption, where the substance being collected or removed actually penetrates into the other solid.
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
Coagulation/Flocculation
Hydraulic Separation
ION EXCHANGE-PRINCIPLE
Ion Exchange resins are insoluble granular substances which have in their molecular structure acidic or basic radicals that can be exchanged. The positive or negative ions fixed on these radicals are replaced by ions of the same sign in solution in the liquid in contact with them.
The ion exchange is complete without:
SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANTS
Overview of sewage treatment
1. What is sewage treatment?
Sewage treatment, or domestic wastewater treatment, is the process of removing contaminants from wastewater and household sewage, both runoff (effluents) and domestic. It includes physical, chemical and biological processes to remove physical, chemical and biological contaminants.
2. Objective of sewage treatment:
To Produce:-A waste stream (or treated effluent), solid waste or sludge suitable for discharge or reuse back, Remove contaminates, toxic, disease causing materials which are harmful for environment , human health and reduce pollution.
There are four general categories of crossflow membrane filtration: microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and Reverse Osmosis.
Microfiltration (MF) Microfiltration removes particles in the range of approximately 0.1 to 1 micron. In general, suspended particles and large colloids are rejected while macromolecules and dissolved solids pass through the MF membrane. Applications include removal of bacteria, flocculated materials, or TSS (total suspended solids). Transmembrane pressures are typically 10 psi (0.7 bar).
Ultrafiltration (UF) Ultrafiltration provides macro-molecular separation for particles in the 20 to 1,000 Angstrom range (up to 0.1 micron). All dissolved salts and smaller molecules pass through the membrane. Items rejected by the membrane include colloids, proteins, microbiological contaminants, and large organic molecules. Most UF membranes have molecular weight cut-off values between 1,000 and 100,000. Transmembrane pressures are typically 15 to 100 psi (1 to 7 bar).
This unit consist three sections. 1. Flash Mixes. 2. Flocculator 3. Secondary settler (tube settler) From Raw Water UGR disinfected water needs to be lifted & it is further led to the Flash mixer, through channel. Flash mixer is a high speed mixer which mixes the coagulation chemical instantly. Coagulant chemical shall be selected according to raw water report. Then it goes into Flocculator. Flocculator is a slow speed mixer. In the flocculation chamber flocks are formed to enhance the settling process which is accomplished in the next unit i.e. Secondary settler.
The tube settler has hopper bottom. The water after coagulation is fed to the settler from bottom side & travels upwards. The surface area is increased by placing specific modules at inclined angle so that the contact time & surface area with water is increased. The flocks formed after coagulation slide down the inclined modules into the hopper bottom & clear liquid overflows into the clear water sump through collection troughs. The flocks settle at the bottom & form sludge having precipitate chemical contaminant such as Mn, Sio2 etc. which is drained out periodically & led to the common drain chamber.
What is MBR ?
Membrane bio reactor is advance form of biological wastewater treatment based on aerobic process which uses bioreactor for degradation of pollutants load and ultra filtration for solid liquid separation.
